Product Guide: Momentary Pushbutton Switch with Brick-Built Housing

This product guide describes how to use the Brickstuff Momentary Button.  We offer this product both as a stand-alone pack (without a brick-built housing) and in a pack that includes parts to make a brick-built housing.  This guide applies to both versions-- if you have the stand-alone pack, you can skip the sections in this article that describe the building steps for the housing.

INTRODUCTION

The Brickstuff Momentary Button is designed to be used as an "activator" button for several of our controller boards.  The list of compatible boards is always expanding.  Currently the Momentary Button will work with the following Brickstuff kits and boards:
  1. 5-30 Minute Variable Timer Module
  2. Any of our Lighting Effect Controllers
  3. QuicKits that include Lighting Effect Controllers, such as our Light and Sound LEGO® Cannon QuicKit, our Welder QuicKit, or our Blue Box (Tardis) Light and Sound Add-on QuicKit
The function of the button depends on the board it's used with.  For example, when using with the 5-30 Minute Variable Timer Module, the button can be used to start or stop the timer or to restart the timer once started (you can also use two Momentary Buttons to control both functions).

When using with Lighting Effect Controllers, the button performs the same actions as the small white pushbutton switch mounted on the effect controller (these functions vary by kit and controller, and are further described in the instructions for each kit).

Essentially, the Momentary Button extends control over various functions to a location away from the timer or controller.  This enables you to mount the timer or controller inside of a model and have the button mounted in a different location (in a central control panel, for instance).

BUILDING THE HOUSING

If you purchased the Momentary Button in a pack that includes building bricks, you can create a housing for the button and pick from several different color button caps.  The steps below show how to build the button housing.

Info
If you purchased the stand-alone button pack without the building blocks included, you can skip to the next section.

Idea
At this time, it's a good idea to connect one end of the cable included with your kit to the plug on the button's circuit board-- in the next step, you'll feed the cable through the hole in the side brick and continue building the housing.

CONNECTION/OPERATION

To use the Momentary Button, connect it to the board/module you're controlling using the included connecting cable.  Plug one end of the cable into the small plug on the Momentary Button circuit board, and plug the other end of the cable into the plug on the board you're controlling.

Warning
NOTE: Plugs can be inserted only one way.  When the plug is fully inserted, you'll feel a soft "click".
The diagram below shows the button connected to two types of boards (the Timer and the Effect Controller):
